The Nucor Nebraska plant started their trial of the QMOS DS Alloy calculator tool in Oct 2023, officially commissioning it in April 2024. In addition to presenting prediction intervals for mechanical test results as each sample is taken at the chem lab, the tool optimizes the operator workflow by retrieving all necessary information from the QMOS ecosystem, calculating optimal additions, and then passing it to the alloy system HMI screens. Recovery rates are finetuned for defined groups of grades and ranges of oxygen probe readings at both tap and ladle. Standard additions are defined for tap samples for those grades that require them. Data collected for every heat is then presented for detailed historical analysis in APEX reports. This holistic solution allows for high-resolution process tracking, evaluation, and improvement.
