Order Spec Management
Every mill has faced the problem of different customers requiring special specs for their products. It has always been a challenging task to manage all the different customer specs and integrate them directly into the Production and QC functions.
There has never been an application that could perform all such tasks under a single umbrella. Customer Spec repository control and change management has always been a complex topic. Especially when it comes to changing specs for which existing inventory exists. However, until recently, QMOS was only capable of managing specs on product and customer levels only. There was no ability to customize the specs per each order. With the advent of Order Spec Management, QMOS is now able to take product specs one level deeper than product and customer and allow it to be specific to a particular order. Every time a sales order or work order is created, the required specs are extracted from the definition tables. These specs are stored against the order and are editable by the user to reflect the specific requirements of that order. Order Spec Management allows the mill to develop and use customer specific product specifications so that a greater range of customers can be served without the need to continuously change critical internal product specs for each new customer order. In the near future, there will be additional functions available for the users to view and analyze the historical order specs for a customer in order to provide them with detailed information on their past specs and help improving their required specs for their future orders.
